With so many staff members leaving Club Penguin - most notably Billybob and Happy77 - I have some serious concerns for the future of Club Penguin. Many staff members have quit in the past but now a new era is being ushered in on Club Penguin and it couldn't be any more obvious. We have a new owner, Club Penguin is making more use of social media - Twitter, Youtube - and the entire island is about to get an overhaul. Club Penguin really wants to make a point that they are looking towards the future and I'm asking, "why now?" And, if you still have any doubt that a new era is upon us, why do you think a documentary video being made NOW? Why are we making these changes to Club Penguin NOW? Well, I think I know why.

I consider this my rumor mill. Although I can't guarantee this, I'm assuming that a lot of original Club Penguin employees are under some sort of contract with Disney that is expiring at the end of this year. Seeing as though the company was bought in 2007, a 5 year contact consisting of 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012, does not seem that out of line. In the past few years, Disney even shook up a few things to make sure that Lane was completely in charge of all decisions and I'm assuming again, that this change was made in hopes that he would come back and renew his contract. Dont quote me on this though because this could be extremely far fetched and these employees leaving could actually be an extreme coincidence.

But, lets focus on the FACTS. Lane Merrifield is leaving and we now have a new owner in Chris Heatherly. We don't know much about Chris but it's obvious that he wants his presence felt on the island with all of the upcoming and new changes. I think that he knows how important Lane was to our community and he wants to prove to us that he has some great things up his sleeve too!
We also have two (semi new) wonderful moderators and community managers, Polo Field and Businesmoose. With so many new names and staff members, you truly have to consider some of the points I made in this previous post before any of this happened. There really are such thing as "Generations", and we are about to enter generation 3 in Club Penguin.

The only point that I made in the previous article that still scares me, is that generation 2 never "defined" itself. I think that we can all agree that Club Penguin was at its' best between 2005-2008/9. That is what I consider Generation 1. And I use 2009 very loosely. It probably truly ended somewhere in the middle of 2008. But, since Disney acquired Club Penguin in 2007, we can't blame Disney for any of Club Penguin's faults. A team can only put out so many good ideas! That is why I am not freaking out over new staff. Maybe they can bring some fresh new ideas to Club Penguin that the old staff maybe would have never thought of. There is also another stance that you could take. If you think that Club Penguin was so good in Generation 1, then you might believe that only the original staff can make it good again. That's a great point too but I think that we don't have the right to judge the new owner and staff members just yet. If they don't do so well, then we may have some really valid points for bringing back original members of the team. But, don't complain just for the sake of complaining. If you enjoy the new updates, then take them as if the original staff gave them to you!

I have been on the island since 2006 and I can sometimes have some very opinionated views. Although I am not thrilled with Lane Merrifield leaving, and as you can guess, a little sad to see my original rooms go, I am going to keep my mouth closed for at least the next year. After a year of new "management" I will come back with another post on how I think Club Penguin is doing. For now, I am going to enjoy and reminisce with the original Club Penguin rooms for as long as possible. Leave a comment.
